Upgrade Detroit

The seventh annual Jazzin’ on Jefferson grooves in the Detroit streets June 26 and 27. This jazz, blues, food, and arts and crafts festival is a two-day event that is expected to draw in thousands of attendees. Jazzin’ on Jefferson was established to celebrate the history and future of the city’s eastside neighborhood.

Planning for the event began back in 2003 due to the overwhelming results of a community survey asking specifically for a jazz and blues festival. Jazzin’ on Jefferson was born and produced by the Jefferson East Business Association, a non-profit dedicated to improving life on the eastside. JEBA raised over $50,000 in sponsorships for the first year of the event. The festival was a success, with first-year performers such as Rodney Whitaker, Thornetta Davis, and Lonnie Brooks supplying tunes for Detroiters.

Admission for Jazzin’ on Jefferson is free, and $5 onsite lighted parking and offsite park, lock, and walk locations are available for attendees. Below are some of the excellent events taking place along Jefferson Avenue this weekend:

Jazzy Tunes: This year, the Thornetta Davis Band (Saturday) and Detroit Merit Academy Band and Friends (Sunday) are just two of the musical guests down to croon to the crowd.

Food and Spirits: Many Metro Detroit food vendors will be serving the public at Jazzin’ on Jefferson, including Pit Crep BBQ, Bon Appetite, and WJ’s Mobile Café-Fish and Chips, among others. Budweiser, Bud Light, and Bacardi Lemonade are available for those of age to consume alcoholic beverages. Soft drinks and Absopure bottled water will be available for purchase as well.

Groovy Merch: The JEBA information tent will be selling Jazzin’ on Jefferson gear, such as T-shirts and hats, to the public.

Artist Gallery Tent: Both local and national artistswill gather within the Artist Gallery Tent for the festival, including Lindsey Jewell, John Osler, and Michelle Smart.

Retail Vendors: For the shopaholics, vendors such as Silk Words and Ovaa Da Top will have clothing and other items for sale.

Children’s Area: The Jazzin’ kids can hang out in the Children’s Area, which will feature The Scholastic Book Fair Sponsored by the Junior League of Detroit and Merit Academy, arts and crafts, and mini-golf, among other activities.

JEBA’s 2nd Annual 5-on-5 Basketball Tournament: Sponsored by Faith Church, The Robert Harris Foundation, and Jefferson East Community Patrol, the basketball clinic will take place Saturday from 11 a.m to 2 p.m and the tournaments will take place both Saturday and Sunday evenings.

The Detroit Community Health Connection will conduct free health screenings.

For a complete list of events, performers, and vendors or more information on any of the aforementioned, please visit Jazzin’ on Jefferson’s official website at www.jazzinonjefferson.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Time To Live Music, Inc. Artist, Lisa Chauntel, Releases Her Debut Album
Live, Laugh, Love

Atlanta, GA, December 24, 2008– “Live, Laugh, Love”, Lisa Chauntel’s debut album, is slated for release in January 2009. It will be available on iTunes, CDBaby, Digstation, and Rhapsody just to name a few. “Live, Laugh, Love” will also be available on Time To Live Music, Inc.’s website at www.timetolivemusic.com/store.htm.

In a class all its own, this much anticipated project is influenced by such great musical talents as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Fred Hammond, Kim Burrell, and many others. Lisa Chauntel’s inspired melodies are a refreshing hybrid of R&B and jazz with a compelling message of life and God’s love toward mankind. Lisa Chauntel’s style and sound are without compromise and her music speaks candidly to the heart of all those who are open to hear.

Originally from Detroit, Michigan home of the legendary Motown, Lisa was introduced to this love of hers early on. Born into a musically talented family, Lisa Chauntel excelled in music from a very young age. Her father is a jazz trumpeter and her mother is a talented vocalist in her own right. From singing her first church solo, “Jesus Loves Me”, at the tender age of four, to taking up the flute and violin in elementary, to singing in state competitions, she was well on her way to fulfilling that destiny.

Lisa Chauntel received her B.A. in Music from Spelman College. While at Spelman, Lisa Chauntel had the privilege of studying under Joseph Jennings. She has also opened for Regina Carter, and been honored to sing for Branford Marsalis, and many others.

With the release of “Live, Laugh, Love,” Lisa Chauntel is preparing for extensive touring in 2009. She is grateful for the opportunity to share her gifts with all who will listen.
After having a CD release party in Atlanta, GA on January 10, 2009, Lisa Chauntel will continue to celebrate with a concert in Detroit, MI on January 31, 2009. She hopes you will join her!

More information on Lisa Chauntel and her music is available from Lisa Green at 678-574-7702; P.O. Box 19018, Atlanta, GA 31126; lisa.green@timetolivemusic.com or please check out the following websites:
